What is Zscan

ZScan is a 3d scanning method WITHOUT using laser scanner.
Thanks to a sophisticated image analysis algorithm ZScan is extremely
efficient and accurated.

RGB 3d Model acquisition and computation are done using digital images only.

Kit

ZScan Kit is composed by:

Nikon D80 digital Camera
(10 Mpix), with 28mm fixed lens.
The camera is submitted to a specific calibration executed in Menci Software labs

Precision slide bar (500 or 900 mm length)

Professional Manfrotto tripod with 3d head.

Work Flow

Position the tripod, mount the slide bar and camera on ruler

Do 3 shoots for each station. Every scene will be composed by a left, center and right shoots.
Don't move the tripod

Repeat shots by different positions to enterely cover the scene.

Time needed by operation:just to do 3 shoots (10-15 sec.)


Software Process

Four steps:
Import taken pictures
Define image's area to be used to get 3d model
Define the acquisition step for each area
Execute the process.


Time needed by operation: it depends on area dimension and requested acquisition step.
With a good computer about 800 3d points each second are elaborated.
